Priyanka Chopra receives Sridevi Excellence Award at Jharkhand International Film Festival

“I’m very honoured to receive the Sridevi memorial excellence award at the inaugural Jharkhand International Film Festival. Sri ma’am was my favourite and I’m really, really humbled at receiving this award in her name. It’ll only encourage me to do more,” said Priyanka Chopra in a video message yesterday May 27 at the awards night of Jharkhand International Film Festival. Priyanka’s mother Mrs Madhu Chopra and brother Sidharth Chopra received the award on her behalf. Mr Mahesh Bhatt gave away the award.

Dr Ashok Chopra Award was given away by Mrs Madhu Chopra to popular singer actress Sapna Chaudhury. “Thanks a lot for instituting an award in the name of my father. It means a lot to us as a family,” Priyanka said in her message.

Another important award was given away to Mr Mahesh Bhatt. It was Milestone of Jharkhand film policy award which was given away by actor Akhilendra Mishra. Mr Bhatt shot his film Begum Jaan in Dumka district of Jharkhand with full support from Rishi Prakash Mishra who’s the festival director of Jharkhand International Film Festival. Mr Bhatt thanked Mr Prakash for his support during Begum Jaan and he wished that the smaller film makers and story tellers will get more support so that they can continue telling stories without worrying about the funds.

Namaste England co-stars Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor celebrate Shefali Shah's birthday in London

Namaste England starring Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra began its shoot earlier this year. The cast and crew began the shoot in Amritsar in Punjab. Now, the cast and crew have begun their international schedule in London. It would be after director Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s 2008 outing, Namastey London that he will be calling shots in London.

Namaste England co-stars and buddies Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor love to share some goofy moments on sets of the film. They often try to pull each other’s legs which the fans absolutely adore. Either Parineeti is making fun of Arjun or he pokes fun at her. The banter seems never ending which is absolutely fun to watch.

On their London schedule, actress Shefali Shah has joined them as the trio continues to have fun. Shefali, earlier this week, celebrated her birthday with Arjun and Parineeti as the duo got off from work to spend some fun moments. Parineeti shared a couple of pictures with her and Arjun and captioned them, “Baba is always jealous when I pose with someone else. @arjunkapoor @shefalishahofficial #NamasteEngland.”

The film Namaste England is a young and refreshing story that traces the journey of two individuals Jasmeet and Param. In the last poster, the duo is seen all set to kick start their journey on a bike. It tracks their love story across the landscapes of India and Europe. Starting from Punjab and moving to Ludhiana, Amritsar, Dhaka and all the way to their international locations.

Produced and directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the film is presented by Pen Movies and Reliance Entertainment in association with Blockbuster Movie Entertainers. Namaste England is scheduled to hit the theatres this Dussehra, October 19, 2018.

Jaya Jaitly attacks Priyanka Chopra for wearing gown at Royal Wedding, PC fans troll her back

Not too long ago, Priyanka Chopra was bombarded with questions about her presence at the much talked about Royal Wedding. Courtesy, her friendship with the bride and now Princess Meghan Markle! The actress’ appearance too was under the scanner, considering that she was probably the only Bollywood celebrity to have attended the wedding. But nevertheless, the recent fashion reviews is a testament that she didn’t disappoint them except the textile queen Jaya Jaitly.

The Indian politician and Indian handicrafts curator, Jaya Jaitly, it seems expressed her disappointment over the attire of Priyanka Chopra. According to her, the actress should have showcased patriotism during the Royal Wedding by donning an Indian saree. Amidst many celebrities who promoted western culture, she slammed Priyanka for dressing up as a British aristocrat. Readers may be aware that the actress was dressed in Vivienne Westwood for the wedding and Christian Dior gown for the reception.

She took to social media to express her discontent.

On the other hand, reports have it that Jaya Jaitly also went on to make another statement on this incident. She went on to speak about the practice where actresses wear fancy gowns by designers who pay them to do so. She also concluded it by stating that the way Priyanka Chopra has the right to wear clothes the way she wants, she (Jaya) too has the right to express her opinion. According to her, the actress should have been dressed in Kanjeevaram or Benaresi saree.

Incidentally, this is not the first time that Priyanka Chopra has been embroiled in a controversy for not wearing a saree. In the past, when she interacted with our honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a private meeting, she received flak for her outfit on social media. The actress dressed up in a knee length dress for the meeting and it didn’t go down well with many netizens.

However, this time around, Priyanka’s fans and others came out in support of the actress and preferred to slam Jaya Jaitly back for her statements calling it unfair criticism. Many of them have further went on to talk about why women are often criticized for their clothes unlike men who can wear anything and get away with it.

After spending time with Rohingya refugees, Priyanka Chopra meets Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina

Actor and UNICEF Global Goodwill Ambassador Priyanka Chopra has been spending time with Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. With her visit and social media posts, she is trying to draw the attention of the people around the world about the massive crisis. The actress has been in Bangladesh for days and has spent ample amount of time with them learning about their problems. After her visit, Priyanka Chopra met Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence, Ganabhaban, in Dhaka.

During her meeting with the Prime Minister, Priyanka Chopra lauded Bangladesh for giving shelter to over one million Rohingya refugees. Priyanka, who spent three days with the refugees, shared her experience at the Cox Bazaar and how it has been interaction with the kids who are trying to overcome the trauma of violence.

Priyanka Chopra, who has been working for the welfare of the children for the longest time, has been sharing many moments with the refugee kids. In one of her social media posts shared on Thursday, she wrote, “I was quite literally knocked off my feet…a spontaneous, unfiltered moment with these amazing kids, who I spent a couple of hours with laughing and learning. It was as if for those few hours we all forgot where we were, and let ourselves be kids again (me included). One of the last stops on my field visit was at a @unicef Learning Center in the Balukhali Camp. Here, children are given a basic education of math, English, and Burmese through a colorful and engaging curriculum of song, drama, role playing. The age of the children in this classroom ranges between 7-10 years old, and for many of these kids this is their first school experience. There are over 400,000 children at these camps, but currently only 1/3 have access to education because of the lack of space and teachers.

Given everything these kids have been through, their was no shortage of excitement or hope when I asked the kids what they wanted to be when they grow up. Whether it be a journalist, doctor, school teacher, or in the military, receiving an education means they’re getting a chance to create the future they aspire for themselves.

The children are also taught basic hygiene, which is very important in a camp such as this, because of wide spread diseases like cholera and watery diarrhoea. Basics, like how to properly wash your hands, has actually helped to significantly reduce illnesses, and what’s amazing is that these kids go home and teach their parents and siblings the good health practices they’ve learned.

Its initiatives like this that are setting these kids up for a brighter future. As I sit amongst them, singing along, the lyrics have more meaning than ever… “deep in my heart, I still believe, we shall overcome one day! .” I know they will.

On the work front, Priyanka Chopra already has two Hollywood projects- A Kid Like Jake and Isn’t It Romantic. She will be soon returning to India to kickstart Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bharat alongside Salman Khan and Disha Patani.

This is little Shohida (8 months old), who stole my heart with her infectious smile. It’s a poignant reminder of the dichotomy of life…here she was getting all the help she needed, when just a few months before, her mother, Alada (who was only 19 years old at the time) walked for 15 days, while 6 months pregnant with her ,to get across the border. It shows us that there is hope left in this world. When you’re dealing with a mass exodus of thousands of people, who have been displaced from their homes and are desperate for refuge, the need for proper health and nutrition takes center stage…especially for women and children. On the various Unicef Field Visits I have taken, I am always surprised by the simple yet effective solutions that @unicef and their partners develop to deal with the most dire and pressing situations and issues. This is something I experienced again today during my visit to the Nutrition Centre at the Jamtoli camp in Cox’s Bazar. More than 60,000 babies have been born in the camps over the past 8 months, so this center is an essential resource for new mothers to learn about proper feeding and nutrition. It all begins with the MUAC, a process where the child’s middle upper arm is measured to ascertain their nutrition level. From there, aids create a program for the child and a nutrient rich, ready-to-eat peanut paste is portioned out for each child based on the severity of malnutrition. At the Center mother’s are also taught basic hygiene and good health practices when they are in their homes. The world needs to care. We need to care. As I walk into the Women Friendly Space at the Jamtoli Camp, I am instantly struck by a certain calmness. These camps are loud & crowded, actually overcrowded, and so to find a quiet oasis, in this case a small hut with a tarp roof and thatched bamboo walls, is surprising. But for the girls in this camp, this is what they call their “house of peace.” It’s a place they can come and just be. A place to interact with friends, seek counselling, learn about hygiene, or learn life skills like art and music. There are approx 50 Women Friendly Spaces in the camps, just like this one, that on any given day see 50-70 Rohingya girls seeking these safe havens. The centers open at 9am, but there is seldom a day when the women aren’t lined up early, waiting for the doors to open. It is here that I met three 18 year old young women, in particular, who’s stories really shook me – their names have been omitted to protect their identities. They recounted lives of pain and suffering so horrifying…it’s difficult to fathom. One scarred with memories of houses in her village being burned – she and her parents traveled for two days to get here, passing hundreds of decapitated and dismembered bodies along the way. Another shared stories of young girls being pulled from their homes to be raped and tortured. They even tried to kill her and cut her with a knife, but she fought back. How did you manage to be so brave, I asked her…she replied, “If you’re born you will die, so I’m not scared of dying today.” In what world is it normal for an 18 year old girl to have this perspective on life?! The third young woman traveled for nearly two weeks on foot through the forest, where her youngest brother died along the way. There was lots of rape and torture back home she told me, and some women’s breasts were even cut off. While their lives are safer now, they are all still struggling. They know that with an education they can get a job and create better lives for their family, like buying protein for their meals, and clean drinking water. It’s literally as basic as that. WOAH! Priyanka Chopra says she was THROWN out of films and here’s why

Priyanka Chopra is a global icon and an international personality of repute. She made headlines for being invited and attending Meghan Markle – Prince Harry’s royal wedding and later for visiting the refugee camps of Ronhingyas in Bangladesh. Many pictures of hers went viral in last week and all for the right reasons. Now, we prepare for the homecoming of the queen as she will be back with Salman Khan’s Bharat where she is essaying a key role. In addition to this, she has her production commitments too and her Hollywood movie, A Kid Like Jake, is all set to release. Priyanka Chopra has grown strength to strength after starring in more than 50 movies in Bollywood and being a part of a hit television series Quantico in Hollywood. But this was not an easy path for her.

She carved this road out with sheer dedication and perseverance and in a recent interaction with media she spoke about the same. She said that it was a very important step for her to enter production because it is hard for newcomers to make it big as filmmakers are not ready to invest in them and she knows it too well. She said that almost all directors she has worked are new directors. Her route is very different and it’s a personal journey. The films that she makes are important to her and she has a point of view that our entertainment has commercial value and it has a story.

She also said that when she joined films, she was already winner of a beauty pageant and still had it a little easy. She accepted that she was thrown out of the films because somebody else was recommended, who was somebody’s daughter. Therefore, she wanted to have an open house philosophy in her production house.

Priyanka Chopra visits Bangladesh as UNICEF ambassador, appeals fans to support Rohingya rehabilitation

Priyanka Chopra is an inspiration to us mortals and that even her detractors can’t deny this. Among other things, she also is a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF. Recently, she went to Bangladesh to visit Rohingya refugee camps and came back with a lot of sad stories and urged masses to help rehabilitate the kids in the camps. She shared some pictures from her visit which is a mirror to the heart breaking reality which these kids face everyday. PC urges us to help make their tomorrow better and shares a heartfelt post on Instagram. She writes, “I’m in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh today for a field visit with UNICEF, to one of the largest refugee camps in the world. In the second half of 2017, the world saw horrific images of ethnic cleansing from the Rakhine State of Myanmar(Burma). This violence drove nearly 700,000 Rohingya across the border into Bangladesh – 60% are children!”

She adds, “Many months later they are still highly vulnerable, living in overcrowded camps with no idea when or where they will ever belong…even worse, when they will get their next meal. AND…as they finally start to settle and feel a sense of safety, monsoon season looms…threatening to destroy all that they’ve built so far. This is an entire generation of children that have no future in sight. Through their smiles I could see the vacancy in their eyes. These children are at the forefront of this humanitarian crisis, and they desperately need our help. The world needs to care. We need to care. These kids are our future. On professional front, Priyanka Chopra will make a comeback in Bollywood with Salman Khan’s Bharat. She will also be performing at IIFA Awards which will be held in Bangkok next month.
